just did a clutch in my 97 impreza, everything is great for 200 miles.
never done a clutch in a suby before, so i didnt know about release bearing retaining clips. i certainly didnt see em on my clutch fork.....
i did my dads imprezas clutch this past weekend, noticed the clips....
tonight, driving around, my clutch got real soggy, and the pedal bottomed out at the floor, real tough to get it to engage.
i thought back to the clips. pulled over....
popped the hood, relieved pressure from the clutch fork, wiggled it around, felt something move, hooked it all back up......easy shifting again.
got it home.
how bad is it to drive without the clips? i ordered some, and will install em, but kind of need my car.
what will i fry if this happens again?
Well I don't think it will hurt anything to drive it the way it is, but there is a chance that the clutch fork could make it past the throwout bearing and hit the clutch which could damage the fork obviousely, but it could also damage the release, "fingers", for lack of a better term, on your pressure plate. Not likely that will happen but it may be possible.
