    Hello, I am new to this forum. I just pruchased an '08 WRX and would like to know if anyone can tell me the ramifications of using regular fuel in this car? Thanks

    Hello all, I see 14 people viewed my psot regarding the use of regular fuel in my '08 WRX, but no one replied. Does anyone out there know the answer? I have been told by a dealer mechanic that the "check engine" light would go on. However, I have used regular fuel in my BMW and Audi, both requiring premium and had no problems. I would appreciate anyone having knowledge or have tried using regular in their WRX's to please let me know. Thank you

    I don't use 85. Lower octane plus the high boost of the WRX equals trouble. I don't know if its that bad to run it here or there ( I have done that on occasion when I'm short on cash) but don't run it and then drive it hard, hitting high boost as you could run too lean and cause major problems. I'd say if you can afford an 08 WRX you can afford to treat it right with 91 octane (or 93 depending on where you live)

    I agree with JRM, you really need to run premium fuel in that car or you WILL have check engine lights on and drivability issues, I can promise you that much. If you run premium fuel and change your engine oil every 3000 miles it will last you a long time. Oil changes are very very important on those cars. Hope this helps and have fun with your new car.

    probably cost effective to use the more expensive fuel as fuel economy could be slightly better as these fuels as tested with high performance car on top gear proof 10/15% more power than standard fuel. treat yourself

    You have to use 91 or higher. You will cause problems with a lower grade fuel. Dont short the gas!

    If your worried about paying for high octane fuel stay out of the loud pedel and get better mpg. besides when you run a car on a lower octane then required the computer retards the timing sometime a lot and you end up burning more fuel so you dont save any money.
    I am a car guy I dont have to be particular to a certain manufactuar.

    you risk detonation of the engine running regular fuel on a WRX. It's higher rpm operating range requires a fuel that can keep up with the burn rate. Especially if you like to drive fast you'll blow up your engine on regular. As long as you're not racing the engine you could probably get by on 89 octane, but I recommend premium.

    I don't know because I've never run anything lower than 93 or waited past 3200 miles to change my oil (I only use Mobil 1 synthetic) good luck

    Your engine will detonate (blow up) if you use regular 87 octane gas. Your engine revs at a higher rpm than regular fuel can keep up with. You need to run premium fuel of 91 or higher octane to keep up with the rate of burn. To keep your fuel injectors clean put a bottle of gas treatment with a full tank of gas every time you have your oil changed.

    85 and 87 are a slower burning fuel therefor your engine will be wasting it and you will send unburnt fuel through your exhaust causing the engine light to come on and potentially ruining your O2 sensors quickly. The engine was engineered for premium so don't skimp on it. You will save more in the long run.
