Hello I have a problem and I need some expert advice. It is a 99 2.5L Sub Legacy with 200K miles, 4 cylinder, automatic2 THE PROBLEM: I was driving up to A-Basin to go skiing and the car was under some stress driving up a mountain. The engine started to make a wheezing noise on the way there. I parked it-went skiing and came back hoping it would be better. I checked the oil and there was about a thumbnail length of oil on the dip stick and oil on the head gasket, and the car had no power. In the fall I replaced the: valve cover gaskets, AC and timing belts, fuel filter, front and rear diff fluid, air filter, spark plugs and wires. I researched the value of the car and it is valued at just under 3K in fair condition. MY QUESTIONS FOR THE FORUM: If you were me what would you do? I have a mechanic friend who will replace the heads for a grand... Would you fix it? If not, how would you get rid of the car? 1-800-junk-car--and companies of that ilk? I have heard of a product called Glass that is a quick-part-time fix for my problem, advice on using Glass?
I don't really know what to do as this is the first major car problem I have had. So any advice would be greatly appreciated from the Forum Experts.
Thanks for your time,
