Default Considering buying a Subaru mpg reliability pricing ?s

Im moving from Texas to Pennsylvania and all I see are subarus. I don't want to spend over 3000 for a vehicle, I currently have a 1987 mr2 that has been great but I don't want to winter drive it. I don't need too much excitement but it does help, my 1991 2wd 5 speed legacy was the most boring Japanese car I have ever owned. Just thinking about subarus because there's so much knowledge and parts available.

My mr2 averages 31 city and 38 highway, I have had no mechanical issues over 40k miles (268k) currently

I just got a 99 Forester, 2.5 motor, 4spd auto. 210,000 miles on it. It does a steady 28mpg and I paid $800 for it and only had to do a front ball joint for the safety inspection. Very happy with it, does really well in snow.
Also very easy to work on, everything is easy to get at.

Dont buy one in PA As they r pricey . I just my 01 outback for $3100 with 120000 miles . If lower price rust has sat in. I have seen 95-99 for $1200 and up in need work .

But my friends run all types of them outback 25 mpg if 2.5 auto combo . forester about same . One guy has Wrx manual it gets 26 mpg. Manual trans add 2-5 MPG . I was surprised not better .
