I've been working on a 2001 Subaru Outback. The timing tensioner bolt just decided to break and launched through the timing cover. The end result was 14 bent valves and a lot of work to get the engine back up and running. After 3 weekends of work, I am up and running again. It is a long story so I won't go into all the work I did. If anyone has any questions or needs specifics for this job, I'd be glad to answer any questions. I found a lot of good info on the web and in many cases these forums helped me avoid some of the pitfalls of doing this job. I might have done a few things differently, but cost was also a factor and I had only a small budget to work with. My goal was to keep costs at below 1/2 of what a full service shop would have charged.
All I want now is to have this vehicle last another 80 to 100,000 miles.
