I have a 87 dl in Nome Alaska with a problem. When it starts cold, it runs a little rough but it settles in and does fine for 2 or 3 miles. Immediately out of the house there is a small hill and it runs OK. 3 miles out the road there is a small hill and the car begins miss badly. As soon as I crest the hill and start down, it smooths out and seems to run fine, even if I put it under a similar load as pulling the hill. I get into town, which is flat, it runs fine. On the way back home, as soon as I start to pull that small hill on the way back out, it starts missing again. I often need to shift down to second, even first to make the hill. Never sure it's going to make it.
My solutions so far have been to add some "Heat" to the fuel to deal with water - no change. I get home and see no evidence of carb ice. We have snow now and it is 6 miles of gravel/packed snow to the house. Being stranded in blowing snow here is serious.
