I had my timing belt replaced on my 2000 outback in the summer, at about 160000km (mainly because there was a head gasket leak which got into the timing belt at that time. I also had it changed for regular maintenance at about 90000km).

A couple of weeks ago, the timing belt tensioner apparatus broke (specifically the bolt holding in place). And of course that ruined the timing belt, and thus the valves, and the engine.

Should the timing belt tensioner have been maintained or replaced at the time of the latest timing belt work?
