Default How to remove Center Dashboard Vents?

Can anyone tell me how to remove the center vents from my 2001 Forester? I know that part of the process is removing the screws located inside the center storage lid. That loosens things up but something else is holding the lid and vents in place.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A lot of the Subie interior plastics snap into place, and are held by tabs. Check real good for black headed screws and if found remove them, and then pry a little with a plastic tool.

usually the whole dash has to come out to remove the center vents, they are held in by plastic tabs but you usually break them by prying the vents without taking the dash out and pushing from the back. if you want detailed info on how to remove dash just shoot me an email and I will send you some info

You don't have to pull the dash all you need is a plastic pry tool and work around the edges for petes sake

    Greetings. Noob here:

I just want to remove the top of the center console in my '99 Impreza. It's that small compartment above the vents, with the lid that pops up. I want to outfit it with a custom, collapsible GPS mount in the comfort of my heated house. I've removed four screws and tugged here and there as firmly as I consider safe. Is it possible to remove this compartment without disassembling a lot more of the console or dash? Thanks.

just do it in the car beacuse u dont want to mount it in that and have a brace be in the way so your best bet is to do it in your garage while its still in the car

    REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

    Disconnect GND cable from battery.
Set temperature control switch to "FULL HOT" and mode selector switch to "DEF" position and recirc switch to "FRESH" position.
Disconnect temperature control cable and mode door control cable from heater unit then disconnect recirc control cable from intake unit. NOTE: Do not attempt to move links during installation.

Remove center panel from instrument panel then disconnect connectors.

here is a detail of getting the unit out but the forum won't let me send pics

if you would like pics send me you email address

    thanks
    eric

Remove control unit assembly from center panel.
Installation is in the reverse order of removal. NOTE: Before installing control unit, set temperature control switch to "FULL HOT" and mode selector switch to "DEF" position and recirc switch to "FRESH" position.
