    Default 1998 forester Problem

I have a 1998 forester, it drives fine, but sometimes when I take off I feel the back wheels slip and feel a few clunk sounds then it takes off nomally.
I only feel it from the rear of the vehicle, and doesnt happen all the time.
I notice it hapenns when I drive off gravel to drive pavement, or it might just be a coincidence.
When I switch it to only FWD it doesnt do it.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I would like to add that I notice it mostly when I take off and am turning, I do not recall it doing it on a straight take off.
    So possibly binding?
But when I put the FWD Fuse in, it doesnt have the problem.

New to the forum but had Subarus since 2000. Maybe a little late for but it sounds like your limited slip differential is not happy.

    Good luck

I'm assuming its an automatic? This was common on those years when the tcm saw wheel slip it engages 4wd harshley. (Automatic only) There is a service bulliten out for this. you may need a transmission computer flash.
    Hope this helps
