I was driving my subi this morning and the battery light came on. When I left work later that afternoon and was driving home the rpm meter dropped to zero and my speedometer dropped to zero while I was still driving 55mph. then the engine started to stutter, the ac was slowly dying, and when I pulled over and stopped the car it wouldnt start again. now I am not sure what to do, or what the problem is. I think it could be something to do with the sensor but I do not know. I just do not want to be taken advantage of at a shop.
Yeah most likely it is your alternator and maybe your battery too. Your battery light coming on is telling you your alternator is not charging. The reason your gauges and everything quit working is you had no power. I would start by charging your battery and starting it, if the battery light is still on have your battery tested and replace your alternator. Hope this helps and good luck.
