View Full Version : 2008 Impreza - Coolant temperature light

New to the forum, and new to Subaru ownership. Just bought a 2008 Impreza and am really enjoying it.

I do, however, have a question about the coolant temperature low/high indicator light; why does it stay on until the engine is warmed up?

The owner's manual says it will stay on (illuminated blue) until the engine is warmed up sufficiently. I'd understand that if I was in Antarctica, but where I am the weather is not that cold -- and I keep the car in a garage. But the light stays on the first 5-10 minutes I'm driving the car.

Should I be worried? Should I idle the car, wait until the light turns off, and then drive the car?

Thanks in advance.

It probably stays on until the t-stat opens and the coolant it pushed toward the temp sensor, indicating correct temp and turning it off. I wouldn't let it idle for more than a minute in warm weather. Just a guess but sounds logical to me.

That light basically stays on to let you know when you can turn your heater on and not blow cold air, you don't have to worry at all about driving the car with the light on. If I remember right the light turns off at 130 deg F, it is something close to that anyway. Hope this helps
