After spending $200 on overheating issues with my car , now One more problem!!! the car engine is tapping like crazy now..Arhh.. I was selling it this weekend and now this happens.. The car has done only 189000kms(apparently they go for 350000kms) and only just started to knock.. Engine done 5000kms since last service, oil is full... and clean..
Been told the it shouldnt be the big end bearings or pistons...with low kms...There is NO noticeable loss of power so i would have thought that if it was pistons or big/little end bearings that you would loose power??
im thinking the oil pick up pipe or oil pump or just noisey lifters..

Anyone help as really need to sell preferably without an engine rebuild..maybe heavy oil..ha.. Im trying not to cry here...ASAP ..

just a thought, i have a 97 legacy with a 2.5 which was making tapping noises and thought was the engine but it turned out to be the hydraulic timing belt tensioner(was leaking fluid and not holding any pressure)..hope this helps

Thanks Jeng i will tell the subby specialist when it goes in on the 7th Jan...

I took the car to a boxer specialist in Brendale QLD and they say it could be the valve lifters and is comming form the left side... So on the 7th car goes in and quoted $160 per side, if both needee $320... thats labour, gasket and reconditioned valve lifter x 4...
went to dealer to get in early before crimbo and worked out to be $900 ish for both sides but NEW genuine lifters of course..mm a bit steep...
