View Full Version : Will a clogged heater core cause engine to overheat?

98'legacy outback. Still trying to troubleshoot cooling system. Any ideas or tips on figuring out where blockage could be will be very helpful................thanks everybody

The heater cool isn't involved in cooling the engine(although it will remove some heat from the engine; useful if your car is overheating, as a "get you home" remedy). If it is clogged, it's probably indicative of a cooling system that needs flushing.
Do you see good flow in the radiator when the cap is off and the engine is at operating temp?
Have you tried a can of rad flush?

Sorry but it always ends up being head gaskets try everything but you will r r heads and if not warped do aftermarket head gaskets if warped mill as little as possible

head gaskets mean? it is not clear to me.....

Yes it always ends up removing heads, checking for warp,. Use aftermarket head gaskets. No way out this is the only fix after ruling out the radiator
