View Full Version : Scratch Advice

I have an 08 Impreza, and I had someone scratch my front side panel in a parking lot (of course, didn't leave any contact info...) and I took it into the subaru dealer and had an estimate for a repair and they said it was 900 dollars! It really doesn't look like a 900 dollar repair, no replacement parts, they just said it needs to be sanded down, primed and painted. I really don't want to pay 900 bucks, but don't want to leave it through the winter. I am pretty savy and learn things quick, although not a full-blown mechanic (I have a 1973 ford truck I have done engine work on) and am wondering if I can figure out how to do this myself and make it look good. I have never done any body work, but if i have access to an air gun and other tools, will it look professional? Or should I get a second opinion from another shop? Or, really you can only tell if you are standing next to the car, should I just leave it for now until I can afford the 900 to fix it?
Any help from someone who knows a more than me would be greatly appreciated.

Is the scratch on the bumper, fender, door?

...And is the scratch on just one part, or multiple parts?
