View Full Version : Engine Swap or Add Turbocharger?

We have a 1998 Legacy Gt with the EJ 25 engine... was starting to think about upgrading it and thought about possibly swapping a WRX or STI engine in. Would it be better/easier to do that or to turbocharger the existing EJ25 that's in it? I'm looking to shoot for around 300 horse similar to a stock STI. Thanks for all input guys.

Well before hand im not an expert, but from any normal engine mod such as turbo/supercharge you need your engine to be ready to handle the turbo, in the long run I would say buying a whole new turbo motor to start with would be cheaper then modifying your stock engine, due to injector sizes, compression ratios, fuel intake, timing and so on so forth, but if you were to rebuild your stock motor and then turbo it, then it would be worth the turbo, otherwise I would probably just get the whole new turbo motor, especially if you can get the Computer and wiring harness

^agreed, you will save a lot of time and money by doing an engine swap.
