We are thinking about buying a 2010 or 2011 Forester. We had a 2004 which was a great car, but at 100k it developed a head gasket leak and I hear that is a problem with a lot of Subaru's.

I'm just wondering if that is a problem that Subaru has worked out, or maybe I should move over to my 2nd favorite which is a Honda.

Thanks for the help.

I have a 2009 and it is the greatest car I have ever owned. I don't see many complains about engine problems like that.

I just bought a 2011 Forester. In all my research I didnt find any kind of habitual problems with the Forester. Who told you Subaru had a problem like that, your Honda dealer? I have a 94 Impreza with 200K on it and never had any problems that were not simply age related problems. Subaru is KBB's best brand for 2011. Over 90% of Subarus built in the past 10 years are still on the road. The Forester is a top saftey pick and Consumer Reports highest rated small SUV. Since you had 1 you should have a pretty good idea what it is about. I bought mine so my wife and 6 year would be in a reliable and safe vehicle that I know will last until he is driving. I would do it again 100% of the time.

My own two cents..... I do not like the new shape/Forester. I'd rather buy a used/2008 or prior..........
